The HSBC-FEI European Eventing Championships
from 23 to 27 September 2009 - Fontainebleau
(Seine et Marne region, France)

The Organising Committee of the HSBC FEI European Eventing Championships thanks the 60, 000 spectators who were welcomed onsite (40, 000 of whom were present during the cross country phase), for their support and their warm encouragements during the competition.

Double victory for Great Britain

The last day of the HSBC FEI European Eventing Championships was also in line with the many developments which occurred throughout this action-packed competition. The second horse inspection which was held this morning bears witness to this. Flint Curtis, Oliver Townend’s horse did not pass the inspection. Therefore it was the end of the competition for the British rider and his horse. Our Vintage, the horse of the Belgian rider Constantin van Rijckevorsel, as well as two French horses, Espoir de la Mare (Jean Teulère) and Expo du Moulin (Arnaud Boiteau) were not presented: this was disastrous for the French team. >> to know more

Great Britain asserts itself

There were a great many spectators present yesterday to cheer on the riders competing in the cross country test.
They will certainly remember the highlights of this event for a long time. The course designed by Pierre Michelet had a lot of surprises in store for the riders. Covering a distance of 5950m, the course was made up of 27 fences to be jumped, representing a total of 40 jumping efforts, to be completed in an optimum time of 10’27 minutes. Only three riders and horses managed to have a clear round in the optimum time (Germany’s Michael Jung / La Biosthétique Sam FB, France’s Didier Dhennin / Ismène du Temple and Great Britain’s Nicola Wilson / Opposition Buzz).

A European title is the dream of all high level sportsmen and women –along with an Olympic medal and a world title. After the 2008 Olympic Games, the HSBC-FEI European Championships (for the discipline of eventing) will be the occasion for France to try win the individual gold medal and the silver team medal again which it received in 2007 in Italy (Pratoni del Varoni).
The French team which is managed by Thierry Touzaint, the national trainer, is committed to defending its titles, to showing its determination and in this way proving that Beijing 2008 is now only a distant memory....

Countdown...
Only the best European riders will be able to compete in the three tests which make up this discipline (dressage, cross-country and jumping) and with one horse only.
The elite of Europe’s riders will be qualified for the Championships according to the World Ranking and the FEI points that they have obtained at international competitions throughout the season.
The candidates will play their hand and try to obtain a team medal or even better a place on the individual podium.
